Monica Medellin knows how to do a deep dive. And now the creator and executive producer — and part-time surfer — is sharing her findings in the four-part docuseries Surf Girls Hawai'i.

HAWAI’I PUBLIC RADIO

Monica Medellin is the creator and executive producer of Surf Girls Hawai’i. Medellin talked to The Conversation’s Stephanie Han about how she learned to surf as a young girl, and her mission to tell stories about women of color in sports.

FORBES

What makes Surf Girls Hawai’i such a standout is that despite the intense competition and high stakes, there is a real sisterhood here. The love between them is evident as each consistently supports the other, even when one’s win comes simultaneous to another’s loss.

SPORTS BUSINESS JOURNAL

MEDIUM

My work is driven by my mission to promote diversity and representation both in front of the camera and behind the scenes. We can and should create teams that reflect the communities we’re covering, and I choose to be a part of that change. — Monica Medellin
